Monolith Connect vs Vonage

Monolith Connect vs Vonage Business Communications

Vonage Business Communications (VBC) is a mature UCaaS platform now backed by Ericsson, with strong telecom heritage and a sister CPaaS business that powers a lot of the world's developer-built voice and messaging. The two things to know going in are: (1) almost every meaningful feature in VBC is a paid add-on on top of the base seat — automatic call recording, call queues, toll-free numbers, AI Virtual Assistant, Visual Voicemail, even the Salesforce integration, and (2) the WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and AI capabilities Vonage is best known for live in their separate Communications APIs and Contact Center products, not in VBC. A loaded VBC seat with the features a trades business actually uses lands meaningfully higher than the headline tier price. Monolith Connect is built for trades from day one — native CRM integration, AI receptionist, and the channels customers actually message you on are part of the platform.

Where Vonage wins

Mature global telecom infrastructure

Vonage was acquired by Ericsson in 2022 and operates one of the larger global telecom networks in the UCaaS space. If your business has international offices or makes meaningful international call volume, Vonage covers ground that purpose-built tools do not.

Strong CPaaS APIs alongside the UCaaS

Vonage Communications APIs (Voice, Messages, Video, AI Studio) are sold separately but are best-in-class for developers building custom communication workflows. If your business has in-house development capacity and wants to build something custom, Vonage offers a real builder platform.

Mature compliance certifications

ISO 27001, PCI-DSS, SOC 2 Type II, HIPAA (BAA available), HITRUST, CSA STAR. If your business has regulatory requirements that need a specific certification, Vonage has the catalog.

Broad CRM integration menu

Native marketplace integrations with Salesforce, HubSpot, Zoho, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Bullhorn, Clio, ConnectWise, Zendesk, SugarCRM, JobDiva, and more. If your business already runs on one of those CRMs, Vonage integrates well — though most integrations are paid add-ons on top of the base seat.

Video conferencing included on Premium and Advanced

Vonage Meetings supports up to 200 participants on Premium and Advanced tiers, with screen sharing, whiteboard, and 15 hours of meeting recording included. Monolith Connect does not include video conferencing.

Where Monolith wins

No ServiceTitan or Housecall Pro integration

Vonage has integrations with horizontal CRMs but no integration with ServiceTitan, Housecall Pro, or any trades-vertical CRM. For a trades business already on ST or HCP, Vonage cannot auto-log calls to your system. Monolith Connect is part of the Monolith Platform — your CRM and your phone share the same data.

Native to your CRM, not a separate UCaaS account

Vonage runs on its own UCaaS account. To log calls and texts to a customer record, you wire up a paid CRM integration add-on per platform. Monolith Connect lives inside the same platform as your CRM — no integration to maintain, no add-on to license, calls and texts auto-thread to the customer record by default.

Headline pricing without the add-on tax

Vonage's headline pricing ($13.99-$39.99/user/month) excludes most things a trades business needs. Automatic call recording is ~$49.99/month per line. Call queues are ~$14.99/month. Toll-free numbers are ~$39.99/number/month. Visual Voicemail with transcription is an add-on or Advanced-tier only. Salesforce integration is a paid add-on. AI Virtual Assistant is custom-priced. A real-world VBC Advanced seat with the features a trades shop uses lands $50-$70+/user/month. Monolith Connect is one subscription with predictable pricing.

WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger included in the platform

Vonage's WhatsApp and Messenger capabilities are not part of VBC — they are sold via the separate Vonage Messages API as a developer/CPaaS product, usage-billed and not integrated with the VBC seat. Monolith Connect supports WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger as native channels alongside SMS and voice in the same conversation thread.

AI receptionist that books into your dispatch board

Vonage offers an AI Virtual Assistant as a custom-priced add-on, built on AI Studio. It can be configured but it does not natively understand a trades dispatch board, technician availability, skill matching, or territory. Monolith's AI receptionist books straight into the dispatch board with full context — the right tech, in the right window, in the right territory.

AI conversation intelligence in the platform

Vonage's Conversation Analyzer (sentiment, AI summaries, coaching, generative summaries) lives in Vonage Contact Center, a separate quote-only enterprise product. Monolith ships AI capabilities across the platform — Moli surfaces customer context, summarizes conversations, drafts follow-ups, and writes automations.

Skill-based routing without a Contact Center license

True skill-based routing in Vonage requires Vonage Contact Center, a separately quoted enterprise product. Monolith Connect routes calls and messages based on technician skills, schedules, and availability without a separate contact center subscription.

Customer review collection built in

Vonage has no native review collection product. Monolith includes review collection, response workflows, and reputation tracking as part of the platform.

Native dispatch and field service integration

Vonage has no native dispatch board, no live customer tracking, and no trades-vertical features. Monolith Connect is part of the same platform as the dispatch board, work orders, and customer tracking portal.

Toll-free numbers without a per-number add-on

Vonage charges roughly $39.99/month per toll-free number on top of the base seat plus per-minute usage. Monolith Connect handles toll-free numbers as part of the standard product.

Pricing

Vonage Business Communications publishes three tiers: Mobile (~$13.99-$19.99/user/month), Premium (~$20.99-$29.99), Advanced (~$27.99-$39.99) — annual vs monthly billing creates a roughly 30% discount and pricing varies by seat count. Headline pricing excludes most features a trades business needs. Automatic call recording is approximately $49.99/month per line. Call queues are ~$14.99/month. Toll-free numbers are ~$39.99 per number per month plus per-minute usage. Visual Voicemail with transcription is an add-on or requires Advanced. Salesforce, HubSpot, and Zoho integrations are paid add-ons on top of the seat. AI Virtual Assistant is custom-priced. A real-world VBC Advanced seat with the features a trades shop actually uses lands meaningfully above the headline tier price. WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger are not part of VBC — they are sold via the separate Vonage Messages API (a developer product, usage-billed). AI conversation intelligence (sentiment, coaching, generative summaries) lives in Vonage Contact Center, a separately quoted enterprise product. Setup fees of $29.99-$99.99 per line are common but often waived during promotions. Monolith Connect is part of the Monolith Platform — a separately subscribed product alongside Monolith CRM with native integration, AI included, predictable pricing, and the channels customers actually message you on. Beta pricing is being finalized with customers and will be published openly before any billing begins.
