Monolith CRM vs HubSpot

Monolith CRM vs HubSpot

HubSpot is one of the best-loved horizontal SMB platforms on the market. The marketing automation, workflows, AI, and free tier are genuinely excellent — and for a sales-and-marketing-led business, HubSpot is a strong fit. The catch for trades businesses is that HubSpot has no field service capability. No dispatch board, no GPS tracking, no live customer tracking, no time tracking, no inventory, no purchase orders, no job costing — none of the operational backbone a service business runs on. To use HubSpot for trades, you typically pair it with a separate FSM tool (Dusk FSM, Zuper, ServiceTrade) and pay to integrate the two. Monolith ships the marketing-and-sales depth alongside the field service depth in one platform, built specifically for trades.

Where HubSpot wins

Best-in-class marketing automation

Marketing Hub is HubSpot's flagship and it is genuinely excellent — landing pages, email campaigns, lead nurture sequences, A/B testing, attribution reporting. If marketing is the engine that drives your business, HubSpot is hard to beat.

Mature workflows and Breeze AI

HubSpot Workflows is one of the most polished automation builders on the market. The new Breeze AI — Assistant, Customer Agent, Prospecting Agent, Content Agent — adds real AI capability across the platform, and Workflows can be authored from plain-language descriptions.

Free tier is genuinely usable

HubSpot CRM Free includes contacts, deals, tasks, basic email, basic calling, and a deal pipeline at no cost forever. For a small business that wants to start tracking customers without committing budget, that matters.

Native customer portal in Service Hub

Service Hub Professional includes a brandable customer portal where customers can view tickets, reply, and access knowledge base content — useful for businesses with a self-service support model.

Excellent reporting and analytics

HubSpot reporting and dashboards are well-designed and approachable, with strong attribution and pipeline analytics. Reporting depth on Pro and Enterprise tiers is a real strength.

Where Monolith wins

Field service is built in, not paired with a separate tool

HubSpot has no field service product. To use it for trades, you typically run HubSpot + an FSM tool like Dusk FSM, Zuper, ServiceTrade, or Arrivy — and pay for the integration to keep them in sync. Monolith covers CRM and field service in one platform with one customer record.

Smart dispatch with skill matching and absences

HubSpot has no dispatch board, no scheduler, no route optimization, and no technician availability tracking. Monolith dispatches based on technician skills, current availability, scheduled absences, drive time, and SLA priority.

GPS tracking and live customer ETA

HubSpot has no GPS tracking and no customer-on-the-way portal. Monolith tracks technicians live and gives customers a live tracking link with current location and ETA.

Inventory, purchase orders, and procurement

HubSpot has no native inventory, no purchase orders, no vendor management, no shipment tracking, and no serialized inventory. To track these you build them as custom objects on the Enterprise tier or integrate a separate ERP. Monolith covers the full operations stack natively.

Job costing with profitability rollups

HubSpot is explicit that it is not built for job costing — for cost-vs-revenue per job, customers integrate QuickBooks or Buildertrend. Monolith ships native job costing with labor and material rollups and per-job profitability.

Time tracking built in

HubSpot has no native time tracking — customers integrate PSOhub, Clockify, TMetric, or similar. Monolith includes timesheets and per-job time tracking natively.

Built-in business phone with no minute caps

HubSpot Calling caps minutes per account by tier (around 500 min on Starter, 3,000 on Professional, 12,000 on Enterprise) and adds purchase tiers above that. Monolith Connect is a separate subscription with predictable pricing — no minute caps tied to your CRM seat count.

Two-way SMS without a separate add-on

HubSpot does not have native two-way conversational SMS for sales or service — Marketing Hub SMS is for one-way marketing sends, and real two-way texting requires Salesmsg, Sakari, or similar third-party. Monolith Connect supports two-way SMS natively, with conversations threaded into the customer record.

AI receptionist (24/7 inbound call handling)

HubSpot has no AI voice receptionist. Customer Agent handles chat/email/social channels but not voice answering. Monolith's AI receptionist handles inbound calls and books jobs straight to the dispatch board.

Custom documents beyond invoices and quotes

HubSpot generates Quotes, Invoices, and Contracts. For inspection reports with photos, scopes of work, change orders, or any custom document, you need PandaDoc, DocuSign Gen, or similar. Monolith Docs generates any document your business produces from CRM-linked templates.

Multi-option proposals natively

HubSpot Quotes do not natively present multiple options for customers to pick — the workaround is creating multiple quotes on the same deal. Monolith proposals support multi-option presentation with customer selection built in.

Industry-specific modules for trades

HubSpot is explicitly horizontal — there are no purpose-built modules for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or other trades. Monolith ships industry-specific modules with the right fields, workflows, and data structures wired in when you start.

D2D canvassing built in, not via SalesRabbit

HubSpot has no native door-to-door canvassing — you integrate SalesRabbit, SPOTIO, or Knockio. Monolith includes a full canvassing suite for trades sales teams: territory assignment, knock tracking, lead capture, route optimization.

Customer review collection without a third-party app

HubSpot has no native review collection — customers integrate REVIEWS.io, Trustmary, or similar. Monolith includes review collection, response workflows, and reputation tracking as part of the platform.

Custom objects on every plan, not gated to Enterprise

HubSpot custom objects require the Enterprise tier ($150/seat/month, 10-seat minimum). Monolith makes custom objects available across plans.

True offline mobile access

HubSpot's mobile app caches recently viewed records for read-only offline access; you cannot create new records, look up filtered data, or update most fields without connectivity. Monolith works fully offline with auto-sync.

Pricing

HubSpot publishes pricing per seat per Hub. A trades-relevant configuration of Sales Hub Professional ($100/seat) + Service Hub Professional ($90/seat) + Commerce Hub Professional ($95/seat) lands at $285/seat/month, plus one-time onboarding fees ($1,500 each for Sales and Service Pro). Custom objects, which are required for any non-default data model like equipment or vendors, are gated to the Enterprise tier ($150/seat with a 10-seat minimum). To add field service capability, most trades businesses on HubSpot pair it with a separate FSM tool (Dusk FSM, Zuper, ServiceTrade, or similar) and pay for both subscriptions plus integration setup. Monolith starts with a deliberately lean and affordable CRM core, with modules, Connect, and Docs as separately subscribed products billed together — one platform, one bill, no FSM tool to bolt on. Beta pricing is being finalized with customers and will be published openly before any billing begins.
